Welcome to Tourism & Mobility Planning Laboratory

 

Objective & Mission

The objective of our laboratory is to propose policies, plans and technologies of inftastructure (e.g. transport systems) development and management toward sustainable tourism development in regions. The theories and methdologies in transport study and data science fields are deeply utilized.

Our laboratory has the followig six missions;

(1) We propose transport and tourism policies based on various analytical methods on travelers' behavior and industrial activities using the combination of various dataset.

(2) We propose new ideas of Mobility as a Service (MaaS) for tourism promotion in order to increase willingness-to-pay for combinations of mobility services and activities in tourist destinations.

(3) We seek possibilities on new mobility services in tourist destinations supported by new techlogolies such as IoT, 5G and 6G.

(4) We promote development and implementation of "infrastructure tourism" concept.

(5) We propose "eco-friendly" transport services and systems after COVID-19 pandemic to tourist destinations.

(6) We support sustaibable tourism development in rural tourist destinations through the researches on business models and economic ripple effect of tourism industry.

Laboratory members

The laboratory has 17 students (9 undergraduate, 4 master, and 4 doctoral), 1 visiting researcher, Tetsuo SHIMIZU (Professor), Yuki OHIRA (Assistant Professor), Nguyen Van Truong (Project Assistant Professor), Keiko HARANO (Project Researcher) as of October 1, 2024. There are two non-Japanese students (Chinese and Vietnamese). 13 non-Japanese students from Malaysia(3), Vietnam(2), Korea(1), Indonesia(3), Nepal(1), Senegal(1), Thailand(1) and China(1) have graduated.

Location

The laboratory locates at the Room 254c, on the second floor of the building No.9 in the Minami-osawa campus. It will take ten minutes on foot from the nearest train station "Minami-osawa" of the Keio Sagamihara Line. The building location can be confirmed in the official campus map webpage.
